Crafted from original handrail off San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge. Placed on the bridge during its construction in the 1930s, these original sections of handrail were removed in 1993 due to weathering & fatigue. This historic American steel, produced by Bethlehem Steel Corporation in Pennsylvania, has been exposed to the wind & the salt air of the Golden Gate for 56 years, leaving a characteristic weathering in its patina finish. This specific bookend design comes from the handrail cap & I-beam connection, containing rivets, which can be found at the top of each section of handrail. Each bookend contains characteristic weathering in the steel from decades of exposure to the ocean wind & salt air of the Golden Gate. Each bookend is brushed clean of debris & rough edges, then left with a patina finish OR given a fresh coat of International Orange - the official color of the Golden Gate Bridge.
