With its low wooden frame and the rope-inspired seat and backrest, Mathias Steen Rasmussen's groundbreaking MR01 INITIAL garden chair has been predestined for outdoor use since its inception. The garden chair is made of iroko wood. This durable wood is a perfect match for Rasmussen's design, retains its characteristic silhouette when adapted for the outdoors and emphasizes the sculptural quality of the chair. As with the indoor version, the frame of the MR01 INITIAL garden chair is made without screws. Rasmussen, a skilled carpenter, used techniques from traditional carpentry, such as embedded dovetail joints, to connect the five crossbars with the open, triangular side parts. The result is a geometric, material-oriented and structurally transparent shape that reveals the craftsmanship of its production from every angle and creates a charming play of light and shadow in the sunlight.
