This Pierre Jeanneret inspired Kangaroo Bench, also known as the Kangourou Banquette, is a compact & comfortable two-seater bench that can fit perfectly in any living room or bedroom. Originally designed for lounging in the halls of general hospitals & private residences around 1955, this bench features a solid teakwood frame with braided canework on the seat & backrest. The slanted backrest forms the base & continues into the legs, creating a horizontal 'Z' shaped profile. The bench is made of reclaimed teakwood with rattan caning in beautiful workmanship & finish that is inspired by the old designs. Handmade by local craftsmen in India, this bench pays homage to the original designs of Pierre Jeanneret furniture. His work with geometric forms & materials like cane & wood gives his teakwood furniture a warm & natural feel. The signature drafting compass shaped legs can be seen on a whole range of designs from chairs to benches to tables & desks. Jeanneret collaborated with Charlotte Perriand on experiments in aluminum & wood, & developed prefabricated housing with Jean Prouv. in the early 1950s, Jeanneret joined his cousin Le Corbusier in Chandigarh, India, where they designed low-cost buildings & furniture. This city remains a masterpiece of the modern vision. Our furniture is handmade with the highest respect for the original designs. This Kangaroo Bench is available in various finishes as per client request. All the timber used in the chairs is reclaimed from rafters of old demolished buildings & has a greater resistance to warping than naturally aired new timber. We also use long strands of cane which results in fewer knots on the chair backs. Although cane is a very resilient material & our handcrafted cane seat & back can last for several years without sagging, we highly recommend that a loose cushion be used for the seat. Our bench is a minimalistic yet functional piece of furniture that is both chic & timeless. With its vintage & mid-century modern appeal, it can fit in any interior design scheme.
