With proper care, the structure remains strong, the thermal insulation remains high & the ceiling remains hygienically clean. 1. Airing instead of washing (The Golden Rule) in 90% of cases, a wool blanket does not need to be washed at all. Fresh air: After use, hang the blanket outside in the fresh air (ideally when the humidity is high, e.g. in the morning or after a rain shower - but protected from direct rain). The effect: The water vapor in the air simply carries away odors & tiny dirt particles. The fiber stands up again & becomes fluffy. 2. Mechanical cleaning Since your ceiling has a smooth, solid surface, coarse dirt can be easily removed. Shake out: Shake vigorously after camping to remove any pine needles or dust. Brushing: If there is dried dirt, you can use a soft clothes brush. Always brush in the direction of the grain. 3. If you just have to do some laundry If the blanket is heavily soiled, please note the following: Hand wash or wool cycle: Wash cold or lukewarm (maximum 30oC). Water that is too hot causes the wool to mat. Wool detergent: Be sure to use a special moisturizing wool detergent. Conventional heavy-duty detergents destroy the protective lanolin layer of the fiber. Do not spin: just spin very lightly or squeeze out the water carefully. Never wring it out! 4. Dry properly Dry lying flat: Spread the blanket flat on a drying rack. Hanging to dry can cause the heavy 2kg fabric to warp. No dryer: The tumble dryer is the natural enemy of wool. The heat & friction would irreversibly shrink & mat the blanket. 5. Storage & Protection Moth protection: Since it is a purely natural product, moths love wool just as much as we do.
