The legs are tapered & join together by mortise & tenon joints secured by Phillips-head screws. This makes for an incredibly strong base. The step stool measures 15 long, 9 wide, & 9 tall & weighs 7 lbs. We don't recommend this, but we took a 2,600 pound Toyota Corolla & mounted it on top of our stools just to illustrate how well-built & strong these stools are ,you can't do this with any stool you bye at the store.
