Abstract Wooden Sculpture Collectible Art Object By Tom Haney

Outpost E3 is another experiment in abstract sculpture making. in the past, my sculptures have been 100% abstract, but with this new set, I started with the idea of them being architectural models of sorts. The idea is, that these were concept models for research outposts. Conceived of more than 50 years ago by some eccentric designer/architect, these utility/residential/research structures were designed for outposts to be established in harsh environments - jungles, deserts, & even underwater & on other planets. Places that are inhospitable otherwise Well, that was my mindset - maybe in the end they just come out as interesting sculptures??? I didn't get carried away with all the fine details, but just the overall forms. I love the long legs, or support beams - & the colors. Process - After gluing together the most interesting scraps of wood from my studio, I applied 3 different coats of paint. After drying, I sanded every last inch with fine sandpaper. Then I applied a generous coat of Johnson's Paste Wax - & then polished it off. The resulting surface is velvety smooth. This piece measures 10 x 32 x 8, & is signed & dated.
