Shonin Han Kengai Copper Bonsai With A Pink Ocean Jasper Gemstone

Size: 7in x 5in x .75in. / 17.78cm x 12.7cm x 2cm . Shonin style which means the bonsai contains miniature trees (less than 6 inches) Han Kengai refers to its overall shape which presents a expressive tree growing despite its precarious position. The branches arch downward reaching down below its roots as if it were holding onto the side of a cliff or perched atop a narrow mound. It is said to be one of the oldest bonsai traditions. This sculpture was preceding for this uniquely large ocean jasper. The drawing was glued onto the metal & then hand sawn with a jeweled saw. A custom made bezel holds the gemstone & a bracket was soldered onto the back. The trunk was colored with liver-of-sulfur patina & the leaves were colored with a copper sulfate solution.
