Pink & Gray Ceramic Face Wall Sculpture

I designed & made Sophia, a ceramic wall sculpture with a striped face in different hues of dusky pink & gray brown. Humans have used make-up in many forms since pre-historic times. Sophia has stripes which disguise her facial features. A loose, abstracted & contemporary take on the scarification used by tribal societies. 8 x 5.5 inches. This unique hand made wall art was inspired by the pale bark & pink flowers of the Geraldton wax plant. I grew up in the hot dry climate of southern Australia. It was one of the few plants that thrived in the heat of summer. The ceramic wall plaque has a striped surface with inscribed clay slip & matte glaze colors in dusky rose pink & a moody gray brown. The cross hatching gives her a bold graphic look.
