This Australian Birdwing Butterfly hails from the tropical city of Cairns, known as the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. Of all the awe-inspiring fascinations our lush planet is teaming with, perhaps none are more bewildering than the transformations of moths & butterflies. This hanging sculpture is actual sizeso realistic that I anticipate anyone seeing it for the first time to believe it is alive. Copper wire has been utilized both as armature for reinforcement & for animating the legs, antennae & proboscis (the long coiled straw where most beings have mouths). The only surreal element at play here is the gold used for the chrysalis. Curious that a work so small could have such a presence in a rooma testament to the wonder of nature.
