We turn unloved wine bottles into practical & pretty herb planters through the application of a little art & a pinch of science everything we make is produced by hand. Our Hydro-herb kits allow you to grow herbs in your kitchen without the need for all that messy soil. Our Hydro-herb kits contain everything you need to grow your choice of herb, hydroponically in your own home (with the exception of some water & a little light). The bottles we use are recycled, cut & ground by hand in Suffolk & our growth solution carefully selected to be organically certified. Growing plants without soil makes for a great science project for young minds as well as great tasting herbs for all. The set contains 3 of our herb planters. We now have nine different herbs to choose from: Mint, Basil, Thyme, Oregano, Coriander, Tarragon, Dill, Flat Parsley & Curly Parsley. Please state which you would like in the additional instructions as you order., the three most relevant to Since we started the hydro-herb kits in March of this year we have instigated a number of improvements to the kits. The four most relevant to our customers though are: i. For some time now we have been proud to say that all the items in our kits are either both recycled & recyclable (the plastic in our solution bottles & paper instructions & of course the wine bottles we use) or Biodegradable (the natural rubber band & cork lids/coasters). We are also very happy to say that our hydroponic solution (of which there is enough to last you approx two years) is organic & so can be trusted by those that care about what they eat. It took some work getting to this point & we are proud to have got there. ii. We have managed to source a larger Jiffy block (that is the part of the kit the herbs root into) this gives the kit a larger surface area upon which the herbs grow, increasing root area by 20% & also is no longer made of peat which can lead to a reduction in size of important peat bogs. iii. We are based in East Anglia which has exceptionally hard water, seemingly harder than the manufacturers expected when saying the nutrients were hard water tolerant. To increase the bioavailability of nutrients it is necessary to double the concentration, we have therefore doubled the amount of nutrient present in the kits. iv. Finally & most recently, having spoken to many customers at fairs & in shops it is apparent that a common concern is the idea that a herb should die & that the kit may not be reusable. It is obviously possible to buy extra jiffy blocks etc. from shops or to by a tailored refill kit from us. However we have decided to allay customers concerns by including an extra Jiffy block & an additional wick in each kit, so that should a customer forget to fill the reservoir or perhaps forget to clip flowers as they appear on Basil to stop it bolting they can have another go without having to buy additional parts.
