Tall, narrow & softly illuminated from within, this handwoven bamboo floor lamp is handmade by us in Northern Thailand using traditional bamboo basket-weaving techniques. The distinctive cocoon-shaped shade is woven entirely from natural bamboo, creating an organic standing lantern with a warm, atmospheric glow. Light passes through the open weave to highlight the texture of the bamboo & cast subtle patterns into the surrounding space. Its slim footprint makes it particularly useful where you want a statement floor light without the width of a conventional floor lamp. Place it beside a sofa, in a bedroom or reading corner, or use several together to create a dramatic lighting feature. TRADITIONAL THAI CRAFT The shape of this lamp is inspired by traditional bamboo fishing baskets found throughout Thailand & Southeast Asia. These distinctive forms have been woven by hand for generations, using thick strips of natural bamboo & an ingenious weaving technique to create their shape without a conventional internal frame. We make each bamboo shade by hand in Northern Thailand & adapt the traditional basket form into a freestanding piece of contemporary lighting. Every lamp is individually handmade, so subtle differences in the bamboo, weave & shape make each piece unique. SIZE Approximate overall measurements: Height - 50-55cm / 20-22in Diameter at widest point - 15-20cm / 6-8in Base diameter - approx. 23cm / 9in Its narrow shape gives the lamp a relatively small footprint while still creating a tall, noticeable lighting feature. As each piece is handmade, measurements may vary slightly. LAMP BASE Each bamboo shade sits over a separately made woven base with a natural wooden bulb holder. The combination keeps the focus on natural materials while allowing the light source to sit inside the tall bamboo shade. The basket & base remain separate, making the shade easy to remove when changing the bulb. CABLE & SWITCH Choose your preferred cable length from the listing options. The inline on/off switch is normally positioned approximately 50cm from the lamp base. If you would prefer the switch somewhere else on the cable, simply leave your preferred measurement in the order notes. The plug will be matched to the destination country where available. Variations in color, weave, dimensions & shape are part of the handmade character of each piece rather than imperfections. Because of the natural bamboo neck & handwoven construction, some lamps may have a slight curve rather than standing completely straight.
