Mountain Bike With Sprocket Stand Made From Recycled Chain

What do you buy for the bicycle enthusiast who already has everything?! How about one of these?! This is a rendering of my recycled bicycle chain mountain bike with a sprocket welded to the bottom as a base. (I also make them without the base if you want to put them on the wall or a book case, etc.) Each link of the bicycle chain is individually welded on the back side to keep the chain in the desired shape. They're about 8 long & 5 tall with a base of 4-6 approximate diameter. These are made from used bicycle chain. Because of the low value of scrap steel, the fact that it is not collected with municipal recycling, & the extra work to collect, sort, & haul it to recycling centers, used bike chain & worn gears end up in the landfill if they are not reclaimed for art such as this. Each chain has a slightly different look based on the condition & finish before the welding process. Also, since the bicycles are hand made, the amount of heat that the chain absorbs during the welding process varies & this also has an impact on what the finished product looks like. Although the gears for the base are not affected much by the small amount of welding required to attach them to the base, they also vary in size, shape, & finish. I coat each bicycle with polyurethane to seal the metal & give it a glossy shine.
