This is the natural progression of the copper patina, & will take anywhere from a month to several years, depending on the environmental conditions surrounding it. The beautiful, natural patina of copper is usually a desirable benefit to the material, & people pay a substantial price to chemically speed up the process in many cases. If you choose to leave your copper as we suggest - raw - then you will always have the option of either letting it naturally patina, or polishing it back to bright copper (steel wool is usually the simplest way to accomplish this). If you desire for the bare copper components of your light, such as the canopy, to be bright & shiny as long as possible, please contact us prior to purchasing. We will coat the copper with a lacquer spray that will protect it from oxidization, but there is an additional fee for this service depending on the light.
