The original painting was completed in 1889, & it is one of three pieces he did depicting stars at night. The original painting now hangs in the Museum of Modern Art in NYC. This tapestry is comprised of 79,504 stitches in 23 threads. The embroidered area measures approximately 7.5 tall & 9 wide. There is the night sky filled with swirling clouds, stars ablaze with their own luminescence, & a bright crescent moon. Although the features are exaggerated, this is a scene we can all relate to, & also one that most individuals feel comfortable & at ease with.
