Some pieces begin with a commission. Others begin with curiosity. This Collector's Piece is one of those rare creationsa table conceived as an exploration of craftsmanship rather than a product line. The arrangement of the timber, the natural character of the oak, & the hand-built construction ensure that this piece will always remain truly one of a kind. The tabletop is crafted from carefully selected solid Local Welsh oak, arranged in a striking radial sunburst pattern. The result is a composition that changes with the light, revealing layers of texture, movement & depth from every angle. What makes this table especially distinctive is the finish. Before being oiled, the oak underwent traditional ammonia fumingan age-old technique that predates modern wood stains. Long before commercially available finishes existed, oak beams, furniture & timber stored in barns, stables & agricultural buildings would naturally darken over years. Ammonia released by livestock gradually reacted with the tannins in the oak, producing the rich, mellow brown tones so often admired in antique furniture. This table recreates that historic process in a controlled environment. Rather than applying colour to the surface, ammonia vapour reacts with the wood itself, transforming the oak from within. Because the colour is created through a natural chemical reaction with the timber's tannins, every board responds differently, producing subtle variations that cannot be replicated with stains or pigments. The darker rays woven through the tabletop are therefore not painted or dyedthey are the genuine character of the wood, enhanced by a centuries-old technique. The finish is completed with natural tung oil that further enriches the grain while allowing the tactile quality of solid oak to remain at the forefront. A subtle bevel has been carefully incorporated around the edge of the tabletop, softening its profile & reducing the visual weight of the solid oak while preserving its substantial presence. This is more than a dining table; it is a celebration of traditional craftsmanship, honest materials & timeless techniques. Created as a Collector's Piece, it stands alone as a singular workcrafted once, never to be repeated, & intended to be appreciated for generations. This table has 140cm diameter & seats 6 people very comfortably.
