The handmade marbling fabric i used for these pillow covers is brandnew & it is from Turkey. It's called Marbling because the results look like the swirls of color in marble stone. Marbled designs are all originals, since no two can be exactly alike. I used natural linen with best quality for backing these pillow covers & the woven parts are all lined with felted interface fabric. No insert, no filler Dry clean only. THE TURKISH ART OF MARBLING (EBRU): Marbling is the art of creating colorful patterns by sprinkling & brushing color pigments on a pan of oily water & then transforming this pattern to paper. The special tools of the trade are brushes of horsehair bound to straight rose twigs, a deep tray made of unknotted pinewood, natural earth pigments, cattle gall & tragacanth. It is believed to be invented in the thirteenth century Turkistan. This decorative art then spread to China, India & Persia & Anatolia. Seljuk & Ottoman calligraphers & artists used marbling to decorate books, imperial decrees, official correspondence & documents. New forms & techniques were perfected in the process & Turkey remained the center of marbling for many centuries. Up until the 1920's, marblers had workshops in the Beyazit district of Istanbul, creating for both the local & European market, where it is known as Turkish marble paper.
