5 ways to bring the outdoors in this spring

5 ways to bring the outdoors in this spring

While the idea of bringing the outdoors in is by no means a new trend, it is more relevant now than ever before. Although we can still get outdoors in a limited capacity to exercise we’re certainly not venturing out as much as we once did. As well as being a key spring trend, adding elements of the outdoors into your home brings a soothing and calming effect.

We hope our guide will provide you with some inspiration to help add an element of the outdoors to your home this spring so that you can begin to reap the rewards it brings!

1. Go green

The quickest and easiest way to create a sense of the outdoors, indoors is through the use of plants - either real or faux. The addition of greenery to your indoor space will instantly make you feel calmer as well as looking fantastic with any design scheme.

Indoor gardens were a popular 2020 trend and this trend is not going anywhere this season. They are a great choice for those who may not have the luxury of an outdoor space but are equally popular with those who have outdoor spaces and are looking to add some calm to their interior.

Indoor gardens go beyond just being a collection of houseplants and with a little thinking outside the box in terms of where houseplants can go, this trend can add a wow factor to any space. Think about combining foliage of different sizes and shapes as well as plants of different heights and growing habits.

Easy houseplants to take care of include:
Cactus
Succulents
Aloe
Spider plant
Peace lily

2. A garden favourite - rattan

The addition of natural materials which are associated with the outdoors such as rattan can help to add an outdoor feel to your home. Rattan is no longer just a garden furniture material and has now become a staple of living rooms, kitchens and bedrooms where its light, natural vibes help to carry the outside world in.

The rattan interior trend is effortlessly chic and timeless. The addition of a statement rattan chair or a more subtle piece such as a rattan lampshade will add a natural airy feel to your home.

This natural fibre blends seamlessly with warmer colour palettes, greenery and darker woods making it a versatile material that can be incorporated into numerous spaces and designs.

We recommend pairing with lush green plants, soft throws or crisp linen to complement the look.

3. Shades of calm

By incorporating the calm shades of nature into our homes we can create a tranquil space and breathe life into our homes this spring.

The colours that we commonly see in the great outdoors - such as forest greens and earthy terracottas – work well in interiors and choosing the right tones for you can have a positive effect on wellbeing.

It is not just about the colours that you choose, it’s also the way these colours are mixed together, proportionately and in balance, as we see them in the natural world. For example, layering up tones and gradients of colours together to create depth and visual interest.

Colour is very individual so it’s important to pick the tones that inspire you. Whether that is a mix of muted, earthy tones or you prefer to add a splash of colour, once your choices make you happy then that’s all that really matters!

4. Feeling blue

Not all nature inspired decor needs to feature the more well-known nature related colours of greens and earthy shades. Instead, why not remind yourself of the ocean with rich blues and greens which are sumptuous and create a dramatic yet peaceful atmosphere.

Various ocean inspired colours can be incorporated through a feature wall, soft furnishings or a statement sofa or rug. Pair with rattan or wicker furniture and minimal accessories and you’ll feel as if you’ve stepped onto the beach. Pair with warmer shades of yellow and gold to add a cosier feel to your interior.

5. Smell the great outdoors

Nothing beats the smell of the seaside on a blustery day or the forest after a rain shower and although we may not be able to take in these smells everyday we can replicate them in our homes with a range of inspiring aromas. Choose seaside scented candles, floral potpourri or essential oils to add the scent of the great outdoors to your home.

Introducing the outdoors indoors this spring will not only have your interiors in trend but it’ll also be an instant mood booster. We hope our blog has provided you with the inspiration you needed to get started!
