Top tips for choosing the perfect conservatory furniture

Top tips for choosing the perfect conservatory furniture

As the warmer months edge ever closer it’s time to start preparing our conservatories to get them ready for catching up with friends and relaxing. Our friends over at Darlings of Chelsea know a thing or two about great conservatory furniture. We enlisted the help of Chris West, Assistant Showroom Manager of Darlings of Chelsea, Surrey who is an expert in all things fabric to provide us with his top tips for choosing the perfect conservatory furniture.

If your conservatory furniture is in need of a refresh, or you’ve just built a new conservatory and are looking for inspiration on how to furnish it, then you’ve come to the right place!

Material

The first thing to consider is the type and colour of material you’d like to incorporate into your conservatory furniture. While velvet is a luxurious material, available in an array of plush colours, direct sunlight will cause darker colours to fade. Lighter colours and natural fabrics such as linen will not only create the element of space within the room but are also a more durable option that will stand the test of time, while still looking the part.

Whinfell, a Darlings of Chelsea sofa, offers classic styling, with sumptuous deep seats and a solid wood frame. Available in a range of colours and materials, it offers both comfort and style, without being too formal for this relaxed space.

Another comfortable and stylish sofa perfect for your conservatory area is the Isaac Linen 3 Seater Sofa from sofa.com. Its laid back style and natural material allow it to fit in perfectly with the light and airy space of a conservatory.

If you’re looking for a corner sofa for your conservatory so that all the family can kick back and relax together at the weekend, why not go for something like Darlings of Chelsea’s Holland Grand Chaise Sofa? Available in washed linen or hopsack, not only will it be the star of the show, you’ll be so comfy you won’t want to get up!

Aside from linen, there are plenty of alternative options which will work well in your conservatory. From bamboo to willow and wicker to rattan, you’ll find something which works for you.

We particularly love this rattan sofa from Choice Furniture Superstore.

It’s not just all about the sofa though! Let’s not forget the addition of natural material pieces of furniture such as this stylish rattan cabinet by Cuckooland.

Adding a wicker or rattan accessory can also help to add a natural and light feel to your conservatory. We particularly love this wicker floor lamp from Dunelm which would look perfect in the corner beside a statement chair.

Bringing The Outdoors In

Given a conservatory provides you with the opportunity to enjoy the sights and sounds of your garden, conservatory interiors often feature elements of the natural environment, to help align with the great outdoors. That could be through the use of plants, bringing some greenery into your space or through furniture such as garden benches, wooden tables and rustic accessories such as mirrors and rugs.

Multi-functional furniture – think storage, from sofa beds to footstools!

The furniture you choose for your conservatory will be largely dictated by how you plan to use your conservatory. If it’s going to be an extra living room or dining room, sofas will be key, if you’re planning on using it as a study, you’ll need to add chairs and a desk to the mix and if it’s a playroom then informality and a sense of fun will be key.

It’s also important to consider storage. Do you like the idea of having books or magazines available? If so, a bookcase could be worth including, a footstool with storage, or a sofa bed with storage space like the Launceston, which provides plenty of storage for cushions, magazines, blankets and more!

If you decide to use your conservatory as both a living and dining room then Pepper Sq’s Ulla transforming coffee table is the perfect choice as it easily converts from a coffee table to a dining table in a matter of moments.

Colour

The colours you choose for your conservatory will shape the look and feel of your space. Strengthen your connection to the outdoors with a natural colour palette and introduce pops of green, either through some flora and fauna, cushions or artwork. Team a corner sofa like the Kingston in feather grey, with big plants like a Monstera or Howea, with the neutral sofa palette allowing the plants to really stand out.

Nautical themes can be popular when it comes to conservatory interiors. Think bright whites, blues and natural fabrics and you’ll feel like you’re one step away from the seaside.

Depending on the style of your conservatory, if you fancy adding some glamourous/more decadent touches to your interior, introduce some bright pops of colour, such as neon pinks, mustards or burnt oranges, to complement the more subtle shades in your space.
