The original goddess Diana statue is a Roman copy (1st to 2nd Century AD) of a Greek bronze original attributed to Leochares, circa 325 BC. The goddess Diana was the daughter of Zeus & Leto, twin sister of Apollo. in Roman mythology, Diana was not only the goddess of the hunt, but of the moon, & nature being associated with wild animals & woodland, & having the power to talk to & control animals. She is guardian of springs & streams, & protector of wild animals, also known as goddess of fertility, it is believed she grants safe & easy childbirth, to all who recognize her. The original is owned & housed in the Vatican, Rome. This bust makes a great pair when twinned with the bust of Apollo Large (reference number: SCRO4401010) as you can see on the third picture.
