MEANING: This handmade Cross is formed from a single line woven into a braid. The Celts believed the one-line weave represented Eternity. This enhances the virtue of the eternal nature of the faith in God & Jesus Christ. The Circle woven through the members can be seen as putting all parts (mind, body, spirit; self, family, world; etc.) into a relationship with Jesus... The earliest Christians extended the bottom leg of the Celtic Wheel Cross to create the Celtic Christian Cross. The circle woven around the vertical & horizontal members defines the Celtic Christian Cross. This is the perfect cross for display in a Christian Family home & makes a wonderful gift for your favorite collector of Christian Crosses! This listing includes size variations. The full size cross is 15.5 inches tall by x 11 inches wide. The miniature is 11.75 inches tall x 8.5 wide. THE CARVING: Our carvings are single pieces of western red cedar, designed & carved to be wall hangings. Each carving begins as a 1 X 12-inch cedar board. While we use power tools (Scroll Saw, Rotary shaft Tool, handheld detail sanders, etc.), we use no lasers, CNC machines or computer-operated cutting machines. All work is done with our hands & eyes... We cut the 2-dimensional blanks with scroll & jig saws (double-sized custom orders have to be cut with a jigsaw). Carving is done with rotary shaft tools & disc grinders. The 80-grit sanding is the final phase of the carving process, removing the nicks & gouges from the carving tools, & finishes the shaping of the weave. The next 2 sandings with 120 & then 220 grit finishes the smoothing & polishing. They are finished with Clear Danish Oil to seal the piece, bringing out the grain & the color.
