Candle Holder // Centerpiece Natural Wood Driftwood Reclaimed Wood Glass Candles Wabi Sabi Lamp Oil

An elegant, understated organic artwork, this natural wood candle holder is the result of my interest in wabi sabi, a Zen philosophy based the appreciation of the old & imperfect...a celebration of impermanence found in natural objects. Ideally, the artist's input is minimal, serving more as a presenter of the object rather than the creator. When I find a weather-worn stump, a branch or a piece of driftwood floating in the lake, I let it sit in my studio for a while. I view from differing angles & ponder its repurposing. Is it a bowl or a candle holder or a wall hanging with no function other than its intrinsic natural beauty? Truly one of a kind...each piece I create is carefully cleaned & brushed to remove dirt & the soft wood, then lightly sanded to smooth out the rough spots. Patience is required as the wood's purpose reveals itself during this process. The bottom is flattened to sit nicely on your table. The wood is fed with a blend of oils & allowed to sit as it absorbs the oils. I then hand wax the piece two times, buffing...vigorously!...to bring out the much-prized luster that only hand-finished wood can reveal. Unfortunately, photos do not show the true richness of the oiling & waxing process. I used a varnish/urethane finish on an early piece & while it looked nice, the result was no match for a hand-rubbed finish. I feel it is worth the extra time & effort to showcase the wood's natural beauty. I think you will, too! Overall size is 20 long x 4 diameter. Three 1 1/2 inch holes are bored into the log to securely hold the candles. Included are three refillable borosilicate glass candles. These are high-quality candles & they look so much more classy than cheap white tealights. FREE with each purchase is a 32 oz. bottle of clean burning paraffin lamp oil. This piece (I'm not sure of the species) has a mottled golden coloration. The patina & luster created by oiling & waxing is outstanding!
