How it's made: Bronze metal powder is mixed with a resin to make the Bronze Resin material, which has the appearance of Foundry Bronze metal. This process creates a material that is more affordable & lightweight. This Swimming Otter sculpture is one of my earlier sculptures. I sculpted it after falling in love with otters after doing a commission for the then Young People's Trust for Endangered Species. I met a wonderful Eurasian Otter named Bea & I found the friendly inquisitive creature absolutely adorable. Tanya Russell has become well known over the last 30 years for her life-like & vibrant wildlife sculptures, & her abstract figurative work. For Tanya her practice is not only about capturing the animals she sculpts with marks & movement. It's about people's relationships with those animals & their welfare.
