However, the square-set framework arcs cleverly above the bed to converge in a hoop from which you can drape linen, cotton or, if you’re feeling VERY posh, swathes of silk. This creates the classic four-poster look (they were originally designed to create a canopy around the bed to keep the cold out – think of it as a very fancy-pants draught excluder).
