A stave is the name given to the narrow lengths of wood making a barrel. These have a slightly bevelled edge & bend in the middle to form the sides of barrel Why is the stave black in one side? Burning/Charring the barrel is taken place during the whisky making process. It essentially is opening up the wood, making it easier for bourbon to extract flavors from the oak. This charring colour is kept in our creations to give more character & a nod to the items former life What's this strange notch? This is called the 'craze groove'. At each end of the stave these are cut in to hold onto the barrel lid & butt. What are these marking, bungs, letters & numbers? Each & every barrel creation comes out different. Although when I make the items I copy the style of the item every item comes out different. Tables might have the old bung holes, former batch number etched into the wood or manufacturing branding. I love to leave these details in when I can & feel they make the item even more unique. What is a rustic style? All my creations & described as rustic style. Best described as rugged appeal, a nod to the materials former life with a countryside feel & evokes a connection to nature & past times life.
