uFurnish.com Founder Deirdre McGettrick sat down with Amy Jewitt – 2025 uFurnish.com Home Awards Finalist to talk about all things interior inspiration and advice for those on their own interior journey.

Sum up your home interior style in 3 words or less: Traditional, Country
What’s your favourite item in your home? My new pergola area – I could spend all day out there, and I do.
If your home had a theme song, what would it be? Take Me Home, Country Roads
Toilet roll over or under on the holder? Over. Or just on the floor if you ask my husband!!!
Do you place your cups and glasses facing up or down in your cupboard? Upwards all the way
What inspired your home’s interior style, and how did you bring that vision to life?
When I first moved in, I thought my style was modern country; however, over the past few years it’s moved to more traditional country. I prefer more timeless pieces and like to incorporate different tones and textures to add warmth and depth. And plants, a LOT OF PLANTS.
How did you balance your design goals with your budget, and do you have any clever hacks or cost-saving tips for readers?
I am a true Yorkshire gal and love a bargain. I actually started my Insta account as a bargain finds page. There are so many cheap alternatives out there; you don’t always have to spend a fortune. I like to have a good mix of a few luxury pieces but mainly affordable items. I quite often share items I’ve bought from The Range, B&M, Home Bargain and Shein, etc., and receive lovely messages from people saying they cannot afford to buy expensive items and are so grateful when I find cheaper, very similar alternatives.
What has been your biggest challenge designing your home, and how have you overcome it?
I wouldn’t say it’s been a challenge, but vaulted ceilings and cobwebs are a bit of an issue. I won’t need to decorate at Halloween; put it that way.
If you could give one piece of advice to someone starting their own renovation journey, what would it be?
We didn’t do the renovation on this particular property (which confuses people, as my husband is also a property developer). We bought this property already converted, as it is next to land we previously owned. We wanted to have a farm, which we have luckily achieved in the last few years. My advice, though, would be to not rush the purchases/styling of a home. When we first moved in, I was desperate to get it styled ASAP, which resulted in rushed purchases to “fill” the house. I’ve since replaced quite a few items that were bought in haste. Which is very costly!
Is there a particular space in your home that you’re most proud of, and why?
My top 3 areas are probably my kitchen, dressing room and pergola. All 3 of these were totally empty shells when we moved in, so I’ve been able to design them from scratch and put my stamp on them – which is probably why I like them the most.
Where do you find your inspiration? Are there designers, Instagram accounts or brands that influence your style?
My all-time favourite Instagram account for inspo has to be Marie Storrie (stories.scottish.steadings); her account is actually the reason I set mine up in the first place. Her home is truly beautiful, and she is also the most lovely lady! Brand wise, my favourites are ZaZa Homes and Laura James Home for furniture. The Wreath Boutique UK for my seasonal wreaths and Kukoon for all my rugs.
What's the next interior project you want to work on?
Probably an outdoor kitchen (just don’t tell my husband, as he’s not aware of this yet).
