Because of Norway's mountainous terrain & hundreds of valleys, the people of Norway had many dialects, native costume, traditions, ext. Norway also had a wealth of artisan traditions to draw from dating from the Viking era. When decorative painting styles reached Norway in the 1600's, it went into all this different areas & created over 15 different styles of Rosemaling, hence making it one of the most interesting folk arts to learn about & to paint.
