This is a hand made art-piece by America's most collected clay artist, Nolan Windholtz founder of Round Tree Pottery. This item is 8 inches tall & 4 inches wide. Nolan handled the entire process starting with throwing an enclosed form from a 2 lbs.piece clay on his potters wheel. Nolan then adds the silly cat face & tail to the vessel while the item is still leather-hard. Each cat includes features that are individually drawn onto the face. This attention to detail insures that no two are exactly alike. Nolan who has Mastered the technique of Once Firing will then personally glaze the item by hand before it is ever placed into a kiln. After & extensive preheat that could last three hours, Nolan will then slowly increase the temp of his kiln to approximately two-thousand degrees. Once that temp is achieved, Nolan will cool the kiln to about 1500 degrees to begin what is known as the Raku Firing method. Nolan uses a method of Raku taught to him by Bruce Odell of Odell Pottery. Nolan worked for Bruce for eight years. Bruce's method is a little more hands on then most Raku artist are familiar with; a little more painful. But it works to produce the beautiful finishes that are a trade-mark of Round Tree Pottery. The title of this piece is Sour Puss Kitty. Every time I look at one of these, they make me smile, Nolan says. Every item of Nolan's is signed by him plus the letters RTP(Round Tree Pottery), year dated. Nolan has been a professional potter for thirty years. in addition to Nolan's work at Round Tree Pottery, Nolan spends several months every year in third world countries teaching the craft of wheel thrown pottery. in the Spring of 2014 Nolan traveled to Jinja Uganda where he started The Source Pottery. He taught three young Ugandans how to make pottery, gave them a potters wheel, built them a kiln & helped them through their first pottery marketing event. Nolan works through Faith Based organizations sharing teachings & lessons from the Bible (Jeremiah 18).
